The Miami City Ballet is pleased to announce the beginning of their 2018/2019 season of shows. The season begins on Friday, October 19, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts in Miami, Florida. The performance includes choreographer Paul Taylor’s Company B, as well as George Balanchine’s (a favorite of the Miami City Ballet) Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.2 and the Concerto Barocco.
The company is set to perform October 19-21 at the Adrienne Center, then October 27-28 at the Fort Lauderdale Broward Center, and November 16-18 at the West Palm Beach Kravis Center. The varying locations allows for a wider breadth of fans to access the wonderful show.
Following Paul Taylor’s death, it is incredibly pertinent to the ballet company to honor his memory. “The loss of him in the dance world is so tremendously felt,” Miami City Ballet Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez says, “but we plan to continue to honor his legacy on the stage now and in the future.”
The line-up for the 2018/19 season is certainly an exciting one for avid fans of the art, as well as those looking to familiarize themselves with classics. For the month of December, the holiday season is in full swing with George Balanchine’s rendition of The Nutcracker, another Tchaikovsky classic. In January celebrates dance with Dances at a Gathering and Brahms/Handel. For the end of February and into mid-March, audiences will be transported by Heatscape and more Balanchine works: Duo Concertant and The Four Temperaments. The season ends in mid-April with a classic piece about life and love—Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
It is clear the audience is in for a treat this season. For more information about the shows and ticket sales, visit miamicityballet.org.
